10C Shared Space, Guelph is looking for a Business Analyst to help launch a new social finance initiative: .

Harvest Impact is being established with an immediate goal to raise $3 Million and a mandate to finance new companies arising from Guelph-Wellington’s initiatives.

This 6 month contract position offers the successful candidate an opportunity to help shape the business model for a new developmental lending organization. Once Harvest Impact is established, the Business Analyst may be given the opportunity to provide ongoing business analytics and planning support to Harvest Impact’s investee companies.

The Business Analyst will play an important role ensuring all aspects of the Harvest Impact’s business plan align as we work to be structured as a share capital co-operative to achieve these strategic objectives:

  • Establish a place-based community capital institution – a social impact investment fund – for accredited and non-accredited investors alike who wish to support innovative companies contributing to a sustainable and resilient local food system.
  • Support Harvest Impact’s investees with access to blended capital and wrap-around supports to achieve financial, social and environmental goals.

Nutshell: The Business Analyst will combine their knowledge in business and finance with an understanding of social enterprise and the social and environmental challenges facing Canada’s food system.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as a resource – to the Harvest Impact leadership team by providing pro forma financial statements and financial models as part of the fund design process.
  • Be flexible – in working with evolving business assumptions that will require revisions and refinements to the Harvest Impact business plan and operations.
  • Dig in – including supporting team and investees with financial modelling, analysis and presentation of financial information, including support in establishing accounting and bookkeeping practices.
  • Develop and document – various facets of the Fund’s business plan in preparation for developing an Offering Statement for Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FRSA) review.
  • Maintain an expanding tool kit – accumulated through desk research, interviews with experts, etc. a collection of governance documents, tools, forms, policies, procedures on which to build Harvest Impact’s own set of tools and best practices for origination of loans and servicing of loan customers.

Education and Experience. You have:

  • Demonstrated expertise in finance, and financial systems/procedures.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills; basic statistical knowledge.
  • Knowledge of community economic development programs and, ideally, an understanding of social finance.
  • 3 – 5 years experience in a related context e.g. community economic development, business finance, bank or credit union or non-profit organization.
  • Working knowledge of various business structures – including incorporated for-profit, not-for-profit, B-Corps and co-operatives.
  • University degree or college diploma in business administration, finance, community economic development, planning, or equivalent experience (e.g. banking, lending, community economic development, sustainable development).
  • Understanding of financial accounting practices and working knowledge of software platforms and tools, e.g. QuickBooks, Wave, and Xero.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to use and evaluate a variety of software platforms, e.g. Google Workspace, CRM systems, Powerpoint, Airtable, Excel, databases, data visualization & other web-based tools.

Compensation and Details:

  • This is a six month contract position based on 37.5 hrs per week at $28.50 per hour with potential for renewal.
  • This position has both on-site and work-from-home flexibility. Our ideal candidate has familiarity with Guelph-Wellington.
