What you will do
A division of the Financial Markets Department (FMD), the Business Analysis and Systems Support (BASS) team provides business analysis and first-line business application support services to the Bank’s market operations and intelligence business areas, which include stakeholders in FMD and other departments such as Funds Management and Banking (FBD) and Financial Services (FIN), as well as the Data and Statistics Office (DSO). The team also leads the department’s business continuity planning and testing activities and acts as the department’s emergency response coordinator.
As an Application Support Specialist, you provide onsite production operational support and testing to applications critical to the success of market operations at the Bank that span multiple departments.
As an Application Support Specialist, you will:
- combine your strong functional problem-solving skills with a keen business sense to provide first-line business application support to our Bank of Canada users for the following applications: Findur, Securities Applications and Technology Solutions (SATS), Crown Borrowing, Bank of Canada Auction System (BCAS), Market Data Management (MDM), Settlement Balances Management System (SBMS), Market View, Bloomberg, Refinitiv Eikon. You will also deliver first-line business support to external Financial Institutions using the Bank’s secure remote access solution ;
- administer and control access to the business applications and external data/information services;
- log and track all user interactions from identification to close-out, as well as track and report on metrics related to operational support activities;
- participate in system integration and user acceptance testing;
- have the opportunity to further improve the team’s ability to support our business clients by contributing and maintaining a knowledge base of business, technical and support issues;
- demonstrate initiative, flexibility and agility by developing solid application and business line expertise;
- participate in and lead testing of the department’s business continuity plan and its interaction with other business stakeholders;
- provide stand-by services to off-hour activities for the Market Data Management solution; and
- play a lead role in ensuring new FMD employees have appropriate tools and information services available.
What you need to succeed
You will possess a strong knowledge of support methodologies and skills in client relationship management. You are a confident communicator, both orally and in writing, who can coordinate deliverables and communication between the BASS team and the Information Technology Services Department, service providers and other vendors. Your innovative problem-solving skills enable you to troubleshoot technical and business-related problems and determine root causes. Your knowledge of market data and information services as well as your experience conducting needs assessment and eliciting and identifying business requirements make you a great analytical thinker.
Nice-to-have
- knowledge of the business of FMD and the role of the Findur suite of software tools, the SATS applications and the Market Intelligence tools in supporting the business
- experience working with the standard and specialized systems used in FMD
- experience supporting multiple business applications simultaneously
- knowledge of business analysis principles and best practices
Your education and experience
- completed post-secondary education (preferably in information technology, finance or business)
and
- a minimum of two years of relevant work experience in at least one of the following disciplines: business application support, financial markets or business analysis
or
- an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
What you need to know
- Language requirement: English and French essential (bilingual) with a minimum starting level of functional (level 4) in second official language. Training may be provided to help reach the required level of fully functional (level 5) in second official language.
- Priority will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents
- Security level required: Secret
- This is considered an essential position, as such, the selected candidate will need to work onsite and will receive protocols to help keep them comfortable and healthy while at work.

- Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $71,300 to $83,800 (job grade 15)
- Depending on performance, you may be eligible for performance pay for successfully meeting (5 to 7% of your base salary) or for exceeding expectations (10% of your base salary). Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
