Job description: As part of the College of Arts & Sciences Office of Admissions and Advising, the Advising Dean / Posse Program Manager provides individual assistance and referral to a cohort of A&S students – ensuring their academic, personal, and professional success; planning and implementing activities and programs designed to contribute to a sense of community among different cultural and geographic backgrounds. This position works collaboratively with staff across many student services offices on campus such as Cornell Health, Dean of Students, Student Disability Services, Athletics, Residence Life, Office Academic Diversity Initiatives, Judicial Administrator, Study Abroad, and Financial Aid.

The Advising Dean / Posse Program Manager is responsible for administering effective programs and support services for students who are part of the Posse Program, which includes overseeing program content, assessment, logistics, communication, budgeting, and program materials. Works in collaboration with a wide variety of constituents within the University and with the Posse Foundation to assess needs, implement programs, and assess outcomes of program. Position provides academic, personal, and financial counseling to program students.

The Advising Dean / Posse Program Manager also works closely with the faculty mentors to Posse and provides logistical support for their participation in Posse activities, as well as logistical support for the administrative activities of Posse visits to campus and Cornell interactions with the Posse Foundation.

Lastly, this position serves as a member of A&S Pre-First Year Summer Program (PSP) coordination team, along with three other staff advisors in A&S. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, collaborating with teammates to determine an overall program schedule for the summer, coordinating program materials, and ensuring all PSP events are successfully planned and executed.

This position is expected to work full-time on campus. This position also requires evening and weekend hours.

The minimum salary for this position is $60,346.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree with and a minimum of two years’ experience or equivalent combination. Hold a high regard for arts and sciences disciplines and a thorough understanding of the career and lifetime benefits of a liberal arts education. Training and experience should be in higher educational administration or in areas of counseling, social work, psychology, or similar field. Demonstrated expertise and experience in the issues faced by students typically under-represented in elite institutions of higher education and/or in the key institutional characteristics that facilitate the success of such students. Must have demonstrated experience in advising and mentoring students in higher education on a wide variety of personal, social, academic, and financial concerns; the ability to work independently yet possess the capacity to be an effective team player, set objectives, and contribute to strategies that meet goals consistent with the mission the College of Arts and Sciences Advising Office and the University. Excellent organizational and problem solving skills; excellent communication (oral written and interpersonal) skills, professional demeanor and strong presentation skills required. Must be comfortable within a fast-paced, multifaceted organization. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and proven ability to learn new software programs and student engagement platforms. Weekend and evening hours necessary and during peak program times. Travel required.

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in liberal arts or student personnel, counseling, education, or related area preferred. Ability to speak multiple languages is preferred.
