Job Summary
The City of Mississauga, Print and Mail section is looking for a Pre Press Operator with; Print Production, Planning, Estimating and Graphic Design experience.
Candidates should possess minimum of 10 years experience.
This role requires Strong Technical knowledge in the Offset and Digital Printing Industry, someone who can work in a fast paced Print Shop environment and has the ability to multitask.
Skills and Qualifications
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
- Minimum College or University education in Graphics related program(s).
- Minimum 10 years Print Industry experience.
- Minimum 10 years Graphic Design, Prepress and Print Production experience.
- Minimum 10 years Estimating/Costing experience.
- Extensive Knowledge of Graphics Design programs and workflows; Adobe Creative Suite etc.
- Extensive Knowledge of Digital Printing and Large Format Printing and related finishing techniques.
- Experience in Preflight programs; Quite Impose and Pitstop is required.
- Experience in workflows used in print production environments; EFI Digital Storefront, EFI PrintSmith, EFI Command Workstation and how they interact with equipment; Konica, Xerox, Agfa, Epson, and HP or similar is required.
- Experience with Outsourcing of complex Print and Mailing projects.
- Sourcing experience of speciality products highly desirable.
- Knowledge of FSC Certification process required.
- Diligent in job planning and setting daily production priorities.
- Strong leadership qualities demonstrated through positive interaction with co-workers, customers and other staff, ability to build positive relationships.
- Experience in conflict resolution; demonstrated tact and diplomacy when dealing with sensitive situations.
- Ability to make sound decisions to reach a win-win solution.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills with a sound ability to communicate with a variety of audiences and using various methods.
- Ability to handle challenging situations with internal and external customers.
- Highly organized and self-motivated and ability to manage a variety of duties simultaneously and effectively.
- Attention to detail and thorough documentation skills.
- Knowledge of VDP with EFI platforms and/or Fusion Pro platform.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products.
- Proficient in Graphic Communications Technology and Related Industry programs.
Duties and Responsibilities
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Set up workflows with specific functionality.
- Repair customer supplied files.
- Perform Graphics Design tasks for clients when necessary.
- Prepare files for variable data output.
- Scan and Digitize records.
- Provide assistance and train back up operators.
- Operate all High Production Digital B/W, Colour Printers and Roll to Roll, Flatbed Large Format equipment’s from electronic files and use of scanner.
- Calibrate equipment; set up special Colours; set up and monitor print jobs including load balancing and job splitting.
- Obtain quotes from outside Vendors.
- Ensure best production method used to meet client needs.
- Advise clients whether requested deadline is feasible
- Use best judgments to resolve issues and move planning forward.
- Advise clients when any discrepancies arise on choices of stock, process asked and branding concerns.
- Help develop and train other team members.
- Ensure confidentiality of data information is maintained.
- Assist to develop processes (SOP) for section and position.
- Share necessary knowledge and training to develop others on team by cross training effectively.
- Actively participate in the quality assurance programs providing feedback on a regular basis.
- Participate in an environment oriented on trust, open communication, creative thinking and cohesive team efforts.
- Help develop and facilitate problem solving and collaboration.
- Work with Team Lead to ensure day to day operations run smoothly.
- Assume role of Team Lead in their absence.
- Consult with Manager on implementation of “modernization” planning.
- Perform any other related duties as assigned.
Promote quality customer service, and positive relations within cross functional teams:
- Keep Manager apprised of any issues or trending surrounding system or operational difficulties.
- Participate in working groups to deliver Print and Mail Services and product information.
- Interact with clients of sections to achieve win-win solutions.
- Provide customer call backs as may be required
- Perform any other related duties as assigned
