Reporting to the Manager, Donor Services, Stem Cells, the Search Analyst works with Canadian Transplant Centres in the HLA matching of patients in need of stem cell donation.

In this role you provide HLA technical expertise and support to the Registry, Transplant Centres and Case Managers by:

  • Manages Canadian Transplant Centre and International patient searches
  • Provides immunogenetics services to CTC’s, including advanced/difficult search analysis and suggesting strategies to enhance search success
  • Ensures quality of the HLA profiles of Canadian Blood Services donor and cord blood unit inventory
  • Provides technical oversight of HLA and search-related functionality of the registry
  • Participates in education and knowledge-sharing activities

Required Skills:

  • Post-secondary level education in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution, preferably a Registered Technologist (advanced) or Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of five years of experience in an HLA/DNA typing laboratory environment
  • A demonstrated ability to analyze HLA molecular and serological associations is required
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential
  • Sound organizational and management skills
  • The ability to exercise, judgement, tact, diplomacy and strict confidentiality are mandatory
  • The ability to generalize and conceptualize ideas and information and to utilize and adapt technical/administrative processes on the basis of a broad understanding of principles, practices and procedures
  • Commitment to excellent customer service
