About the role
Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular Full-Time Tester to join our dynamic External Customer Experience team in Ottawa. The work of a Tester is integral to Canadian Blood Services’ role as Canada’s Lifeline. In this role, you will be an intermediate member of the IT team, the Tester works on mission critical applications designed to create excellent digital experiences for Canadian Blood Services’ community and stakeholders.
Key responsibilities include:
- Working with product leadership to create, review, update and execute test plans associated to various applications and technologies at CBS; documenting details of scripts, results and issues identified
- Designing and implementing test models for software releases, including security updates, business enhancements and platform upgrades
- Developing and coordinating test schedules
- Participating in test planning, test configurations, technical problem resolution, and reporting of progress during the test cycle
- Documenting clearly written test plans designed to test compliance with requirements as well as ensure stability and data integrity
- Documenting issues identified in testing and providing details to development teams for resolution
- Leveraging test automation where possible and maintaining the automation platform to reduce the overall delivery time on product releases
- Researching and developing new test techniques and strategies; recommending alternatives to improve verification time and/or test coverage and to maximize effectiveness
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary level education (e.g. college, technical institute, or university) in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution, preferably in Information Technology, Computer Science or Computer/Software Engineering
- 5 years exposure working in verification/test roles within IT environments
- Certification in Software testing such as CAST, ISTQB, CSTE or other is an asset
- An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered an asset
Required skills:
- Mature general understanding of IT systems
- Ability and desire to learn and enhance software testing skills
- Systematic approach to identifying problems and documenting issues
- Collaborative approach to working with teams and stakeholders
- Strong documentation skills (e.g. test strategy, plan, script, summary)
- Good communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong analytical skills
- Proven ability to breakdown a product into its test components e.g. User Interface (UI) versus back-end versus system integration
