The purpose of this role is to interact with members regarding medical and pharmacy benefits, eligibility and claims issues and to assist with plan selection and enrollment. This role is expected to identify opportunities to connect members to the best resources to meet their healthcare needs and provide support in order to resolve medical and benefits issues on behalf of a member. The Customer Service Advocate builds trust with members across their health care lifecycle.

This position is full-time (40 hours/week) Monday – Friday. Employees are required to have flexibility to work any of our 8 hour shift schedules during our normal business hours of 9:00am – 8:30pm EST. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime. Our office is located at 77 Water Street, 14th & 15th Floor, New York, NY 10005. If hired to work at our New York office, you will be required to work onsite.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Acts as a customer advocate and provide in language phone service to Vietnamese and English speaking Medicare customers
  • Own problem through to resolution on behalf of the member in real time or through comprehensive and timely follow-up with the member
  • Respond to and resolve on the first call, customer service inquires and issues by identifying the topic and type of assistance the caller needs such as benefits, eligibility and claims
  • Proactively educates members on cover benefits, plan exclusions, and procedures to enhance total customer service experience
  • Maximizes use of community services, support programs, and resources available to members
  • Assists and involves in member retention projects
  • Identifies trends and continuously makes recommendations to improve processes
  • Performs other related projects and duties as assigned
  • Meets established performance standard

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma / GED (or higher)
  • Bilingual fluency (verbal and written) in Korean and English
  • 2+ years in a Customer Service environment (proven customer service skills and experience working in retail, call centers, or any other professional business office setting)
  • 1+ year moderate proficiency with Windows PC applications which includes the ability to learn new and complex computer system applications
  • Ability to work scheduled shifts within our hours of operation (Monday – Friday, 9am – 8:30pm eastern time) where lunches and breaks are scheduled, with the flexibility to adjust daily schedule
  • If you need to enter a work site for any reason, you will be required to screen for symptoms using the ProtectWell mobile app, Interactive Voice Response (i.e., entering your symptoms via phone system) or similar UnitedHealth Group-approved symptom screener. When in a UnitedHealth Group building, employees are required to wear a mask in common areas. In addition, employees must comply with any state and local masking orders

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate degree (or higher)
  • Experience in Health Care / Insurance environment, preferred (familiarity with medical terminology, health plan documents, or benefit plan design)

Telecommuting Requirements:

  • Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy
  • Ability to keep all company sensitive documents secure (if applicable)
  • Must live in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection or leverage an existing high-speed internet service

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Frequent speaking, listening using a headset, sitting, use of hands/fingers across keyboard or mouse, handling other objects, long periods working at a computer
  • Service center environment with moderate noise level due to phone and walk-in conversation, printers, and floor activities.

Colorado Residents Only: The hourly range for Colorado residents is $17.12 to $30.34.
