Job Summary Assembly is the process of extracting aeronautical information and data from the NAV CANADA Aeronautical Information and terrain databases and the subsequent processing of this aeronautical and geospatial data to create output files and web or print-ready aeronautical information products. The AIM Geographic Information Assembly Specialists directly participate in the maintenance, updating and production of printed and electronic aeronautical information products; provide technical solutions, advice and guidance relevant to AIM initiatives; develop, improve and deliver training; enhance aeronautical information products to satisfy customer requirements and maintain safe, high quality products; enhancing processes used in the production of aeronautical information products and establishing and adhering to quality control measures in accordance with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), ISO, NAV CANADA’s Safety Management System (SMS) and Business Management System.
Job Description
Key Accountabilities:
- Executes plans related to the maintenance, updating and production of printed and electronic aeronautical products.
- Provides solutions, advice and guidance for AIM initiatives and personnel. Such solutions are developed in conjunction with management and delivered to staff through the formulation and maintenance of processes and workflows as well as the allocation of responsibilities to ensure that both internal and external staff meets their goals.
- Coordinates with staff to ensure that tasks affecting selected aeronautical information products are properly completed on schedule.
- Develops, improves and delivers training to attain the safest and highest quality end product.
- Supports improvements to aeronautical information products to satisfy customer requirements and maintain safe, high quality products.
- Supports improvements to processes used in the production of aeronautical information products.
- Ensure the highest quality and safest aeronautical information products are provided to our customers by establishing and adhering to quality control measures in accordance with ICAO, ISO, NAV CANADA’s Safety Management System and Business Management System.
Education/Occupational Certification:
- Successful completion of secondary school and Post-secondary degree in Geographic Information Services (GIS) or Geography or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.
- A post-secondary technology certificate or diploma in one of the following fields: Computers, Engineering, Aviation would be considered an asset.
Experience:
- Experience configuring Geographic Information Systems, cartographic, charting and desktop publishing systems.
- Experience maintaining and updated aeronautical information publications and products
- Experience in the area of data production or data management.
- Experience in leading and or participating in projects.
- Experience in digital geographic information systems and geographic data.
- Experience in using COTS cartographic, desktop publication and charting software applications and Geographic information system tools.
- Experience using the MS Office suite of applications (or equivalent).
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of COTS (Commercial-off-the-Shelf) desktop publishing, cartographic and charting, GIS and spatial database software and principles.
- Knowledge of the Canadian Air Navigation System.
- Knowledge of navigational aids and aviation terminology.
- Knowledge of aeronautical information services, and products.
- Knowledge of aeronautical publication production methodologies and systems.
- Knowledge of the ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices applicable to AIS.
- Knowledge of the ISO 9001 International Standard for a Quality Management System.
- Knowledge of cartographic principles pertaining to map production processes and software.
- Knowledge of the MS Office suite of applications.
Abilities:
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Ability to effectively prioritize, plan, and execute tasks/projects.
- Ability to analyze complex situations and identify and resolve problems in a technically complex environment.
