Job description: The Building Community Capacity to Address the COVID Social Pandemic: Primary care and community partnerships in advocacy project is a novel initiative seeking to change primary care practice by applying community engagement and development principles to community-led, primary care-partnered advocacy initiatives focused on social policies and structures underlying inequities amplified by the COVID pandemic. The project team will support the development and evaluation of three community-led advocacy initiatives in locations across Canada and use learnings from those projects to develop guidance for communities, primary care providers and trainees to support the spread of such partnerships across diverse primary care settings in Canada.
This project is currently looking for a Research Coordinator III to work 30 hours per week from September 1, 2021 to August 31, 2022. In this position, the individual will be responsible for supporting the development of community-based advocacy projects using community engagement and community development principles. They will oversee a community-grounded, largely qualitative evaluation of these projects. And they will support the creation of knowledge dissemination products for primary care providers and trainees, and communities. They will report to the project lead, Gary Bloch, and work under the expert guidance of research and community engagement experts that form the project’s core leadership and evaluation team.
The candidate will have experience in community engagement, community-grounded advocacy, project management, budget management and community-based qualitative research. They will take a strong leadership role, in partnership with the project team, and will feel comfortable working in close alliance with communities that have experienced social marginalization. As this is a national project, and much of the work can be conducted virtually, the candidate may reside outside of Toronto.
Summary of Duties, but not limited to:
- Coordinate three project sites in locations across Canada. Support local partner community members, community agencies and health providers to develop advocacy projects using community engagement and development principles.
- Establish and oversee contracts and track project deliverables with partner agencies at each site.
- Work with community engagement experts and partner organizations to create and deliver training for community and health team leads at each project site. Support the sites in creating and implementing a structured advocacy plan.
- Recruit participants to participate in interviews and focus groups
- Conduct interviews and analyze transcripts under the direction of the research leads and project lead
- Monitor the progress and deadlines of project activities, develop and maintain records of project activities, and establish and maintain operating policies and procedures
- Work collaboratively with all team members
- Coordinate the day-to-day activities of the project
- Prepare periodic and ad hoc reports, as required by investigators, administrators, and funding agency
- Responsible for collaborating with the investigators and other relevant partners involved in the project both internally and externally
- Plan, implement and coordinate all aspects of data collection and source documentation as per the organization’s policy and ICH/GCP guidelines
- Prepare, submit, and maintain Research Ethics Board (REB) applications both internally as well as submissions to external organizations, tracks ethics approvals, and complete renewals/amendments as needed
- Manage all aspects of the project funds, purchases of equipment
- Collaborate with investigators and other team members to develop knowledge dissemination and training materials, write and edit presentations, reports, proposals, publications, conference materials, and manuscripts.
- Plan and coordinate regular meetings for project team

Qualifications
- Minimum Master’s degree in a relevant discipline (health, social sciences, or public health)
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience working in a community-based research environment
- Minimum 5 years of experience working directly with individuals and communities that experience social marginalization
- Experience working with community organizations that work in communities experiencing social marginalization
- Experience in complex, multi-site project management
- Experience in participatory and community-based research approaches
- Experience with qualitative research methodologies, in particular conducting and analyzing qualitative interviews with individuals and focus groups
- Knowledge of planning and management processes for research (e.g., experience with the ethics approval process, executing research contracts, budgeting, etc.)
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Motivated, self-starting, and collaborative with strong time management and project coordination skills
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks, work accurately and effectively with deadlines
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills are essential
- Excellent skills in writing and editing presentations, reports, budgets, proposals, publications, conference materials, and manuscripts.
- Computer competency including familiarity with qualitative data analysis software (i.e., NVivo), EndNote, MS Word, and MS Excel
Expected salary: $31.97 – 41.56 per hour
