Essentially, the Institute works with various social movements and community-based groups to develop methods, strategies and tactics for effectively challenging public policy making on vital economic, environmental and social justice issues with a particular focus on unmasking the corporate power that lies behind governments today.
Part-time bookkeeper
- Temporary (3 months) bookkeeper position
- Location: Preferably Ottawa, however anywhere with fast and reliable internet could be possible
- Term: Initial 3 months contract, 15 hours per week.
- Salary: $21 per hour
- Start date: September 13th.
The Polaris Institute is seeking a qualified and motivated individual interested in supporting its administrative and bookkeeping activities. The position will provide bookkeeping support to the Polaris Institute’s Operations Manager.
Experience:
- The successful candidate will possess knowledge, either through education or equivalent experience, of non-profit bookkeeping and administrative systems.
- Knowledge and experience using Quickbooks
- Proficient with spreadsheet software, online financial portals.
- Knowledge of and experience with administering payroll.
Hours/Term:
- This position will require 15 hours per week, work should be performed between 9am and 4pm eastern time to provide for collaboration with Operations Manager, flexible to successful candidate’s time zone and schedule.
- The initial term of three months could expand.
Job Duties:
Administer payroll & benefits program
- Process bi-monthly payroll using Ceridian online system for approval by Operations Manager.
- Make changes and updates as required to add, remove and change payroll as required.
- Reconcile and report each payroll cycle to Operations Manager.
- Review year end reporting alongside Operations Manager to ensure accurate filing of T4 information.
- Maintain Desjardins online system for employee benefits, including adding or removing staff as necessary.
- Reconcile and report each benefits invoice to Operations Manager.
- Communicate with staff regarding payroll and benefits program as required.
Donations Systems Support
- Access online systems provided by Stripe, iats, paypal or other donation processing services as required.
- Reconcile and prepare reports for financial activity through each processor on a monthly basis for submission to Operations Manager communicate with project staff and donors as required in regards to donation activity.
