Job description: Scope of Position:
Under the supervision and direction of the Supervisor, Facilities Services, and as a member of the multidisciplinary team, will provide functional direction/guidance and be responsible for the implementation, coordination, operation, maintenance, monitoring and control of all maintenance and building systems to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for Residents, staff and visitors.
All staff must work collectively and respectfully to achieve quality care for the Residents and participate in a “Team Concept” to care.
Position Description:
- Provide functional direction and guidance to Facilities staff and coordinate the daily routine and project operations of the Facilities Department
- Assist with the review and updating of all policies and procedures for the Facilities Department
- Oversee the development and implementation of the preventative maintenance software program
- Operate, monitor, control and coordinate the utilities and process systems to provide water, air, various gases, water treatments, heating, cooling, ventilation, gas monitoring and pollution abatement (recycling program) services
- Provide water in proper quality and quantities for low pressure boilers and domestic water systems in the home
- Provide environmental sampling, testing and analysis services through the home
- Maintain a continuous check on all equipment and auxiliaries
- Organize and conduct monthly fire drills and staff in-services of the Fire and Emergency Plan
- Pick up parts and mechanical supplies for the home, if required
- Provide snow removal and salting services of sidewalks
- Conduct floor maintenance, including repairs and installation
- Undertake all duties and responsibilities in compliance with Health and safety standards, guidelines and legislation, including compliance with Public Health standards and Ministry of Long-Term Care regulations and other relevant legislation (e.g. Electrical Code, Fire Code, Building Code, etc.)
- Orientate new staff and students as required
- Participate in in-service educational opportunities as applicable
- Maintain awareness of emergency procedures at all times; participate in drills and associated educational opportunities
- Be aware of and comply with all corporate facility policies and procedures.
- Adhere to infection control policies, procedures, protocols, routine and additional practices as required
- Confidentiality is of extreme importance and must always be maintained
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
Knowledge and Experience:
- Grade 12 graduation or equivalent
- Construction and Maintenance Electrician, Class 309A, license for the Province of Ontario or a Certificate of Apprenticeship Completion for this license with Red Seal Endorsement within six months
- Five years of relevant and recent experience (which can be gained through apprenticeship) in all aspects of electrical systems, including heating, lighting, power, communication, control, security systems, air conditioning systems, and fire protection systems
- General knowledge of plumbing is considered an asset
- Other trade licenses are considered an asset
Skills and Abilities:
- Good leadership skills for overseeing Facilities staff while actually participating in the course of the work
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to maintain good working relationships with staff and the general public
- Good organizational and time management skills
- Good interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written)
- Computer expertise in corporate standard software (Microsoft Office) and department specific software
- Valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
- Must be aware of safe work practices as they relate to job responsibilities and work environment, and have the basic understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act

Salary: $30.861 – 32.077 per hour ($1 less per hour for probationary period)
