Job description: The Cornell Cooperative Extension of Orange County Gleaning Program Coordinator II will primarily be responsible for coordination of the established Gleaning/Food Security Program to provide and improve healthy life choices among families and individuals encompassing all age groups throughout the Hudson Valley, working with community agencies throughout the region. This position will organize and coordinate activities relating to the Gleaning programs and events; coordinate all aspects of registration and reporting process; assist in the coordination of deliveries; assist in scheduling of pickups and deliveries; field gleaning programs and events in collaboration with the supervisor; gather gleaned produce/resources; provide guidance to volunteers and staff; collection of data and create evaluation reports. Represent CCE before the public, community leaders, government officials, Cornell University, and other land grant universities in a professional manner as part of program delivery.
This is a grant-funded, benefits eligible, non-exempt position working part-time, 30 hours per week.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree with course work in Sociology, Food Systems including Hotel/Restaurant Management, Agriculture, or related field.
- Experience relevant to the role of the position.
- Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
- Ability to meet acceptable motor vehicle check standards as required.
- Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
- Ability to analyze issues and to initiate, plan, organize, implement, and evaluate informal educational programs addressing diverse audiences in assigned areas.
- Ability to utilize computer technology to prepare reports and proposals, communicate internally and externally, prepare visuals, access information.
- Experience with public presentations in small land large groups.
- Ability to relate effectively to co-workers, advisors, community and professional leaders, and clientele groups.
- Ability to utilize resources effectively.
- Ability to identify, recruit and manage volunteers.
- Ability to identify and utilize program resources within the community.
- Ability to communicate effectively through oral, written, and visual channels using traditional educational tools as well as electronic technology (e.g., video, audio, computers, etc.).
- Ability/willing to drive a 16-foot box truck; no commercial license needed and lift up to 75 pounds if needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Coursework or experience in volunteer management and food safety and/or Agriculture.
- Ability to communicate in Spanish both verbally and in writing.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
Program Responsibilities:
Program Delivery – 10%
- May occasionally apply subject matter knowledge to assist supervisor with the creation of innovative materials for delivery to participants of the Gleaning Program.
- Deliver educational materials to impact audiences through a variety of delivery methods, with support from supervisor, utilizing all forms of mass media and social media.
- Foster acceptance of program, methods, and policies to address community and individual needs and consider diverse audiences.
- Foster acceptance of the program by maintaining good working relationships with community-based agencies, volunteers, and other appropriate linkages to further enhance the program.
- Serve as a subject matter resource for staff, volunteers, program participants, and other groups as they are identified. Provide standard responses and assist as needed in providing moderately complex nonstandard responses.
- Serve as a team member and cooperate with the entire Association to achieve Association program delivery goals.
- Extend educational resources and help participants make connections to subject matter volunteers, other Extension programs and community resources.
- May assist in ensuring that program delivery is within scope of the statewide Plan of Work.
- Represent CCE before the public, community leaders, government officials, Cornell, or other land grant universities as part of program delivery.
- May be involved in multidisciplinary team efforts within the Association or regionally to deliver program.
Administrative Responsibilities:
Direction – 5%
- Provide input to Supervisor in planning the delivery of program produce/resources through a variety of methods.
- May assist with the planning of delivery of established educational program goals.
- Assist Supervisor with identifying key relationships to build/sustain with community leaders and stakeholders.
- May assist in identifying program needs with Supervisor, advisory committees, and program participants.
- May provide input to the communications strategy based on program feasibility.
- May assist with financial direction of program to include planning for program expenses and budgets as well as financial resources for program continuance and enhancement.
Management – 5%
- May solve problems and resolve conflicts that arise in the operation of the program, utilizing appropriate policies and procedures.
- Support volunteer recruitment and involvement.
- May provide guidance and oversight to program staff.
- May give guidance to volunteers and staff, including those performing similar work.
- May provide low-complexity administrative tasks in guiding the implementation of communication strategies on particular program/function.
Coordination/Operation – 75%
- Provide routine/administrative tasks to support the delivery of the program goals, i.e. scheduling pickups and deliveries; coordinate all aspects of registration and reporting process; assist in the coordination of gleaning programs and/or events; gather gleaned produce/resources; collection of data; create evaluation reports.
- Maintain records of participants, agencies, farms, complete reports and accurately collect and prepare paperwork as required for the program evaluation process.
- Submit program related expense receipts and vouchers to Supervisor for approval.
- In collaboration with Supervisor, complete necessary written documentation as required by program funders.
- Scheduling of pickups and deliveries from farms to agencies to meet the needs of agencies as requested.
- Assist in utilizing effective marketing strategies in the promotion of programming efforts to include, but not limited to: print media, news media, social media, radio, and multi-media efforts.
- Provide information as requested to assist with preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories on program progress and accomplishments for funders, advisory committees, Board, and others as necessary.
- Purchase appropriate program materials as needed with Supervisor approval.
- On a regular basis transports self, also carrying program materials and resources to community-based settings. Able to drive and/or willing to learn to drive 16 foot truck as needed, no commercial license required.
- Assist in allocating unit budget amounts and provide input to supervisor for budget preparation.
- Collect evaluation data from program participants based on existing framework.
- Collect applied research data based on existing framework.
- Collect program needs assessment.
Professional Improvement – 5%
- In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.
- Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.
Health and Safety – Applied to all duties and functions.
- Support the Association to maintain a safe working environment.
- Be familiar with and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.
- Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.
