This position is located in our office in Ottawa, Ontario. As a result of the global pandemic, SSHRC and NSERC employees are currently working remotely. When the current situation reverts, the successful candidate would at times be required to report and work onsite from the Ottawa office. Please note that the candidate is responsible for any relocation fees. The employer will not accept any expense claims.

Job Summary

The Senior Communications Advisor (CRCC) provides strategic communications advice and guidance to the Canada Research Coordinating Committee (CRCC) Secretariat, plans and implements internal and external strategies in support of the CRCC’s goals and objectives, developing consistent messaging across CRCC member organizations through a proactive and coordinated approach. The job also entails communications planning and product development in support of specific programs and initiatives that the CRCC oversees, including the New Frontiers in Research Fund (NFRF) and other priority areas.

Statement of Qualifications

Education

University graduation with a degree in communications and/or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience related to the position.

Experience

Recent* and extensive** experience providing strategic communication services within a medium- to large-sized organization.
Recent* and significant*** experience providing communications advice and guidance to senior officials (i.e. Director-level and above)
Significant*** experience in preparing communications strategies and plans in support of major initiatives and activities
Significant*** experience in project management in a communications environment.

*Within the last three (3) years
**Extensive is equivalent to five (5) or more years of experience
***Significant is equivalent to three (3) or more years of experience

Knowledge

Knowledge of conventional and emerging communications techniques
Knowledge of electronic and print publications
Knowledge of Web-based and electronic information dissemination systems
Knowledge of university research communities would be an asset
Knowledge of the Communication Policy of the Government of Canada

Abilities

Ability to develop and manage complex communications strategies and activities at the corporate and program levels
Ability to juggle priorities and manage several projects concurrently
Ability to lead, manage, organize and coordinate a team, including the participation of contractors
