PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Preference may be given to candidates who have:
- Experience programming in Java or similar technology;
- Experience with databases, such as Oracle or MySQL;
- Excellent application support and integration skills;
- Experience with SQL, XML, .NET and Internet Information Services (IIS) for Windows Server;
- Possess understanding of modern integration architecture that includes web services and APIs;
- Ability to work well as part of a results-driven team and support integrated applications effectively; and
- Ability to work and communicate effectively with various stakeholders at both a functional and technical level.
Duties Description The New York State Education Department (NYSED) is seeking candidates for an Information Technology Specialist 3 (Programming) position to serve as an Integration Specialist within the Office of Information Technology Services (ITS). Under the direction of an Information Technology Specialist 4, the incumbent of this position will collaborate with multiple IT teams to implement and support integrations, web services and APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) that are critical to the implementation and operation of an enterprise Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) solution. This solution will offer the NYSED Adult Career and Continuing Education Services (ACCES) division and their consumers a modern system for VR case management and other mission critical services. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provide hands-on implementation, troubleshooting and support services for multiple interfaces and integrations that work together with the core VR Case Management SaaS product, as part of the end-to-end application support for ACCES-VR technical solution;
- Develop and maintain knowledge of legacy mainframe development for data cleansing, data conversions and migrations;
- Develop APIs, services, file transfer solutions, information exchanges and application enhancements;
- Document technical information related to multiple integrations;
- Provide hands-on support for complex solutions such as enterprise service bus;
- Work with NYSED IT leads to stabilize service-oriented architecture (SOA);
- Partner with vendor staff, NYSED ITS staff and ACCES business teams to provide full range of operational support services;
- Provide testing, defect analysis, and technical problem management support;
- Participate in technical requirements documentation, modeling, analysis and design;
- Work with vendor and other technical teams on specific integration solutions to ensure that NYSED ITS team’s technical deliveries work well within the overall end-to-end solution;
- Provide hands-on issue resolution services and proactively monitor for system problems;
- Use products, tools and services that allow for effective technical solutions and seamless operations;
- Perform root cause analysis and technical fixes for defects and prioritize fixes for interface releases;
- Provide hands-on support for all payment related interface activities;
- Participate in transition and knowledge transfer activities with vendors and IT teams;
- Provide technical training, assistance and support for areas of support;
- Serve as the primary technical point of contact in supporting day to day operations;
- Assist in adapting to enterprise architecture to meet acceptable enterprise system practices;
- Deploy and maintain systems in accordance with established guidelines;
- Participate in the testing of applications and products and develop test plans;
- Participate in all stages of the application development, support and operational maintenance; and
- Participate in change and release management activities to ensure that updates and modifications to components of the VR solution over the life of the product are implemented with minimal issues and disruptions to technical services.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a contingent permanent appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointee’s negotiating unit. *Leads to a maximum salary of $92,693 based on annual performance advances.
