The results of this competition may be used to staff similar term or indeterminate positions within the Finance and Awards Administration division.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Candidates must clearly demonstrate in their cover letter how they meet the education and experience factors listed in the essential and asset qualifications. The cover letter should not exceed two (2) pages in English or two and half (2.5) pages in French* (8.5X11; 11 point font; normal margins). Job Summary

Provides essential, effective and efficient accounting services for NSERC and SSHRC grants, scholarships and fellowships programs including the verification of Grants & Scholarships (G&S) payment requests in accordance with the Account Verification Framework and the issuance of payments; ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial information to support management decision-making in fulfilling the Councils’ core mandates; ensures the compliance with the Financial Administration Act (FAA), Treasury Board of Canada and other Central Agencies’ policies, directives and financial frameworks; manages all accounts receivable related to transfer payments for both granting agencies.

Statement of Qualifications

Education

Secondary school diploma or PSC approved alternatives.

Experience

-Recent* experience in using one or more of the following financial systems: Oracle; FreeBalance; SAP, grants management systems, etc.
-Recent* experience in providing accounting services, processing accounting transactions such as accounts payable, and/or accounts receivable, in an integrated financial system.
-Experience in performing financial data analysis and reporting.
-Recent* Experience in using computer software, such as word processing, Excel spreadsheets and electronic mail

*Within the last three (3) years

Knowledge

-General knowledge of NSERC and SSHRC
-Excellent knowledge of general accounting principles and procedures.
-Excellent knowledge of Treasury Board Secretariat and Central Agencies’ financial policies and directives
-Above standard knowledge of office automation tools, in particular Excel and Word

Ability to apply NSERC’s and SSHRC’s policies, administrative/accounting policies, guidelines and directives as appropriate
Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment
Ability to recognize issues and propose viable solutions
Ability to plan, organize, control and implement a high volume and quick pace of multiple activities in accordance with established policies and procedures under tight deadlines and in an autonomous fashion
