The Engineering Strategies and Practice (ESP) program within the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering is an award-winning design, communication, and teamwork course that trains first year engineering students to solve real world problems. This position works under the supervision of the Course Administrator/Course Liaison and Student Project Coordinator, and the Associate Director, First Year Programs; reports to the Vice-Dean, Undergraduate; and works under the general direction of the Course Coordinator and the Communication Coordinator. This position will be part of a teaching team of ~70 individuals who undertake the challenging task of executing this course for ~1000 studentseach year.
The Course & Educational Technology Assistant provides administrative and technical support to the Engineering Strategies and Practice (ESP) program, which includes: providing front-line response to requests for information; administrating the learning management system (Canvas/Quercus); attending lectures (online in Winter 2021) to implement active-learning activities; maintaining the course Microsoft Teams sites and Piazza; providing resource and troubleshooting of course technologies; assisting with the preparation of course materials, tests and correspondence; entering and updating course information and grades; and assisting with other duties as relevant for the course.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Acting as the first point of contact for general enquiries
- Resolving issues within the scope of the role and escalating problems as required
- Writing routine documents and correspondence
- Creating and updating records
- Maintaining information on digital platforms
- Providing detailed information on available technologies
- Troubleshooting issues uncovered by testing or user feedback
- Testing and analyzing new and upgraded software
+Essential Qualifications:
- Advanced College Diploma (3 years) or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Minimum three years of related experience including front-line service and administrative support in a busy, high-volume environment
- Experience in providing support to students, faculty, and staff; or equivalent experience
- Experience providing relevant technical support
- Strong computer skills for technical support. Strong proficiency in educational technology or similar. Intermediate to advanced skills with MS Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook
- Superior service orientation, good judgment, and ability to deal tactfully, personably and effectively with students, faculty, and staff
- Proven attention to detail and accuracy
- Effective management of large volumes of data and information
- Strong organizational and time-management skills and ability to frequently adjust priorities
- Excellent interpersonal and written and oral communication skills
Assets (Nonessential):
- Experience with educational technology such as Canvas/Quercus, Microsoft Teams, Piazza, MyMedia, Mentimeter, Articulate Rise, OMR Remark Office, Crowdmark, and Turnitin
