Job title: Accounting Clerk

Job description: Reporting to the Capital Accounting Manager, the Accounting Clerk will be responsible for processing capital and operating account activity for the Physical Resources department. Specific responsibilities include: processing vendor invoices for payment and maintaining all purchasing and financial records; maintaining a database for tracking all capital project related contracts and expenses, ensuring information is up-to-date and accurate; submitting and maintaining high value purchase orders; ensuring all contracts, purchase orders and invoices are compliant with the Broader Public Sector Procurement Directive and University of Guelph policies; assisting in month-end and year-end financial reporting and reconciliations; preparing external invoices and processing deposits; preparing journal entries; reconciling procurement card purchases; and other associated duties as assigned.
Requirements of the position include: A two year Community College diploma in an accounting-related field, plus a minimum of two years’ related experience, preferably in a fast paced purchasing/financial environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional requirements include: strong organization skills; effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills; ability to perform a high volume of work accurately and promptly; an orientation to detail; ability to work well both independently and as a valued member in a team environment; ability to recognize and recommend process improvements; strong computer skills; and proficiency with a variety of software including Microsoft Excel and databases. Experience with the University’s Financial Reporting Systems (FRS) would be an asset, as would be bookkeeping and/or construction industry experience.
This appointment is regularly performed on- campus but will be initially fulfilled remotely (off-campus) until the University resumes its regular operations.
