Job Summary:

This position will manage the implementation of mid to large size IT projects across the university, including establishment of a customer relationship management (CRM) environment. The role requires extensive collaboration with project stakeholders and Durham College ITS to assess, plan, and execute the scope of work. This position will also play a role in analysis of needs, RFP creation, vendor selection and implementation of IT solutions.

Nature of work:

Reporting to the Manager – Student Systems, the candidate will be a primary contributor to innovative application of technology. The candidate will work with clients, technical subject matter experts (SMEs), vendors and other project team members to initiate, plan, execute and control all project related items. This includes ensuring deliverables and timelines are met, changes are properly documented and approved, and issues addressed.

Responsibilities/accountabilities:

  • Lead the implementation of selected information technology projects across the university.
  • Manage all phases of the implementation of the chosen solution, including the coordination of all follow-up activities related to the subsequent phases of the business vision.
  • Manage relationship with business stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with ITS and business teams to manage projects’ risks/issues/dependencies and come up with appropriate mitigation plans.
  • Lead design and implement test plans; compile test results and communicate with Manager, Student Systems to identify necessary fixes/and or changes.
  • Proactively manages client communications and expectations to ensure client satisfaction in partnership with the development team.

Required Skills

  • Knowledge of process management, including workflow documentation.
  • Solid verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail along with solid technical writing, analytical, research, problem solving estimating and decision making skills.
  • Proven ability to provide direction and technical advice to business users and peers.
  • Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge of the software development life cycle and how it is applied in a multi-tiered environment.
  • Ability to work in a self-directed and self-motivated manner.
  • Work in a team-oriented and collaborative environment.
  • Prioritization and execution of tasks in a constantly changing environment.
  • Ability to analyze and solve complex problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new technologies.

Education

  • Completion of a University Program consisting of Four Academic Years or Equivalent
  • University degree in the field of Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Business Administration, and/or a related field of study.
  • Verification of Academic credentials may be required Required Experience

Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience as a Project Manager, Information Systems Analyst and/or Senior Systems Analyst with a proven track record as a contributor to the analysis, testing and documentation of complex major application systems projects in an ITS environment.

Work experience on IT projects with Software as a Service (SaaS) and application development focus. * Experience with ERP systems, such as Banner, and a working knowledge of relational databases and web and client-server concepts is required.

  • Experience with CRM, data migration, software development, teamwork, and networking.
  • Practical work experience in the analysis of business applications, including the use of strong technical skills in order to effectively review, analyze and design modifications to systems.
  • Proven experience leading all phases of IT projects from development to implementation and delivering them on time and within budget while maintaining project quality.
