Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and Planned Parenthood Action Fund (PPAF) seeks a dynamic and effective team player for a Director, Information Technology Systems & Architecture position with direct experience in IT systems and architectural design, implementation, and support. This job reports to and takes direction from the Sr Director, Information Technology Operations in the Information Technology division of PPFA.

Purpose

  • The position is responsible for the overall IT Infrastructure Architecture. This individual is first and foremost a highly experienced and skilled technologist and IT architect. This role will originate new policies or programs and will materially expand the range of services or programs delivered. The role covers systems, technical design, and implementations. This includes all related IT functions, IT day-to-day operations support of PPFA’s Information Technology infrastructure, and integrations with the various business systems. Activities include developing and recommending architectural strategies, roadmaps, and plans working directly with the IT staff, vendors, and Information Security team to achieve the IT strategic end-state architecture. This position will be directly involved in resolving technical issues, ensuring that technical design is developed and implemented properly. This position will identify the correct monitoring and support tools for the environment, provide technical quality control recommendations and requirements, ensure all IT activities minimize any negative impact to the business and maximize customer service. Critical in the delivery of these responsibilities is ensuring the stability and the proper functioning of PPFA’s Information Technology platforms meeting our defined service level performance / availability agreements (

% availability level). * The Director, Information Technology Systems & Architecture, primary responsibility is setting the strategy and strategic goals regarding the technical architecture for the organization’s infrastructure. This position’s success is measured in the efficient functioning of the IT infrastructure, achieving the metric levels assigned, maintaining the systems availability measurements and accepting responsibility for the outcome. This the individual is expected to function independently, with minimal oversight, and capable of the decision making necessary to achieve these requirements.

  • The position requires senior level experience and knowledge in IT infrastructure, engineering, service desk, and the requisite technologies along with the management skills required. The operational responsibilities include overseeing the vendors, policies, processes, and procedures that make up IT, and to ensure the proper high levels of customer satisfaction are achieved and maintained. This includes continual assessment, development, and delivery of PPFA IT operational strategy, roadmaps, architecture, systems, and programs, while overseeing the day to day IT operational performance of the end to end platforms of infrastructure, applications, and end-user support. Core to these activities are enforcing that all IT architecture and systems life cycle policies are enforced, with specific enforcement on ensuring no IT production systems or software ever fall beyond current minus one release or version for the manufacturer or fall out of vendor support.

Delivery

  • Core responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Assess, develop, manage, and continuously improve the IT systems & architectural strategies, overall infrastructure & detailed systems designs, assist in overseeing as assigned management of the day to day technical operations, and maximizing service delivery for PPFA.
  • Continuously conduct IT assessments, analysis, and develop architectural solutions, then ensure the IT solutions are implemented properly to achieve the stated business objectives and provide the best value for the organizations investment dollar.
  • Maintain an advanced understanding of industry wide IT infrastructure and enterprise architectures, IT products & services, along with a broad knowledge of software and technology infrastructures.
  • Drive information technology architecture continually forward in conjunction with Information Security, business departments, and business partners to ensure business continuity, productivity, and security are maximized.
  • Technology Architect will take charge of tracking, monitoring, and providing continuous improvement recommendations to the company application portfolio and assisting project teams to shape architectures consistent with platforms, roadmaps, and standards for architecture and design.
  • Lead the IT Architectural aspects of the US and Global office and infrastructure build-outs, WAN/LAN, and Telephony.
  • Lead the architectural recommendations that assist in driving the organization towards a zero trust architecture while maintaining the 100% remote support strategy of the organization.
  • Align project development/delivery with corporate policies and customer needs/expectations.
  • Build standards for Global offices to align with US policies and service delivery standards.
  • Collaborate with the Information Security team to successfully implement and operationalize cybersecurity technology.
  • Advise Affiliate IT leaders on recommended technology and programs to best maintain their independent IT network as needed.
  • Identify, deliver, maintain, and monitor key architectural metrics to assess systems health, infrastructure efficiency, and proper data maintenance and management then assist in driving the activities and projects to ensure the IT organization achieves those metrics.
  • Recommend, contribute, and participate in key decisions concerning PPFA network infrastructure and architecture.
  • Make recommendations on operational improvements of all systems and processes with stakeholders and vendors.
  • Oversight of business continuity and disaster recovery for information technology, creating a highly available IT infrastructure.
  • Integrate technology architecture and design with the business goals of PPFA, working in collaboration with various business departments on a wide array of needs and requirements.
  • Manage IT assets (both hardware and software assets) and procurement effectively, using internal or partner systems.
  • Work closely with our IT staff and vendor partners to maintain and improve the quality of services provided to our staff and other key users.
  • Participate in / lead the evaluation process of new partners, systems, applications, tools. Gain full knowledge and document our internal needs in order to define product/service requirements.
  • Lead large and small scale IT projects and provide subject matter expertise for implementations.

Engagement

  • An ideal candidate is someone who is able to navigate our Federated model and disparate technology systems as well as a large number of National and Global office stakeholders and Affiliate IT leaders successfully. Excellent collaboration and communication skills required to foster trusted relationships with key technology stakeholders. This position will interact on a regular basis with VP, Sr Dir and Dir level individuals within the PPFA organization as well as on occasion interact, consult, and be a recommender to Affiliate IT Directors and VPs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and 8+ years of technical and operations experience. Masters in computer science a plus.
  • Enterprise architecture experience with AWS, Azure, Google Suite, as well as experience designing, and managing large AWS environments.
  • AWS solution architecture certification or ability to obtain certification within 90-days
  • Must have the skills and be comfortable working in and delivering in a Cloud-First IT infrastructure and working towards a zero-trust environment.
  • Must have the experience and technology knowledge base for enterprise IT and data center optimization and architectural design, including networking, provisioning, management, and implementation.
  • Ability to provide architecture leadership on multiple large complex projects and managing highly technical projects.
  • Experience working with Information Security partners and providing support as needed on cybersecurity technologies (optionally Palo Alto, Splunk, CarbonBlack, Darktrace, proofpoint, etc.).
  • Is self-motivated and capable of working with teams or independently, able to work with Affiliates, Information Security, product managers, vendor managers, and purchasing to achieve business objectives.
  • Strong collaborative disposition and ability to gain consensus even without direct supervisory authority.
  • Experience in or basic knowledge of ITIL, ITOps, DevOps, and PMP frameworks.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and be comfortable discussing and presenting to non-technical management and staff and be capable of communicating technical issues in a non-technical manner.
  • Industry certifications a plus (Palo Alto, CCNP, etc.)

Travel

  • As-Needed, approximately 10% to the U.S. and global regions

Starting Salary: 140k

Final offers for this job will be based on capabilities and will be made within the parameters of the PPFA compensation program.
