Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Director of Nursing and the direction of the registered nurse on duty, provides support services to the Resident home area/unit.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: * Participates as a member of the interdisciplinary team.
- Assists with the nutritional intake, documenting, and monitoring of resident meals and nourishments.
- Books and prepares documentation for resident appointments and arranges for escorts and transportation, as required.
- Participates in the Homes Quality Assurance programs by collecting and reporting statistical information for Indicator tracking.
- Schedules and organizes resident lab work and diagnostic tests in accordance with admission protocols, physician orders, and Homes’ policy and procedure.
- Maintains up to date immunization records and consents for all residents according to regulations and Homes policy and procedure.
- Maintains cost effective use of the Unit’s equipment, medical, office, and continence supplies inventory within established guidelines and quotas.
- Maintains medical charts, files and resource manuals.
- Assists with portering of residents within the Home.
- Participates in RAI-MDS documentation.
- Participates in maintaining a safe environment for residents and staff, demonstrating an appropriate response to emergencies and safety procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience:
- Certificate of graduation from a practical nursing program, together with a current Certificate of Competency from the Ontario College of Nurses
- Experience in long-term care would be an asset
Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
- Must have good customer service skills
- Proficiency with office computer equipment and word processing and spreadsheet software
- A genuine interest and understanding of the elderly is necessary
- Competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Must undergo a successful Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC)
- Prior to commencing employment, will be required to review and attest/affirm to all Pioneer Ridge Staff Immunization Policies
- Must have successfully undergone a “two step” tuberculosis skin test within the 12 months prior to employment.
Expected salary: $23.69 per hour
