Job description: Portage is a not- for-profit organization that helps people overcome substance abuse- issues and associated behavioural problems in order to achieve positive lifestyle changes. Portage provides drug addiction rehabilitation treatment in its various centres in Atlantic Canada, Québec and Ontario. Portage Elora services youth aged 14 – 18 years of age.
Under the supervision of the center director and of directorof the nursing services, the nurse, in accordance with the law, assumes responsibility for a set of nursing care and collaborates in the administration of therapeutic, preventive, diagnostic and research procedures.
DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
As part of her duties, the nurse :
- Promote infection control
- Provide training to users and staff
- Open user files in collaboration with the pharmacy
- Proceed with the ordering of medications
- Follow up on prescriptions
- Distribution and management of drugs to users
- Carry out nursing procedures such as blood tests, vaccination, wound care, urine tests, etc.)
- Write adequate and necessary notes in the users’ file
- Make physical and psychological medical appointments for users
- Know how to evaluate emergencies and establish priorities
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings
- Ensure that procedures and protocols are implemented and respected
- Ensure the implementation and respect of procedures and protocols
- Ensure the physical and psychiatric medical follow-up of residents
- Performs all other related tasks at the request of his/her immediate supervisor
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- College diploma in nursing or a diploma from a nursing school recognized by the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Be a member in good standing of the College of Nurses of Ontario ;
- Interest in clients with substance abuse problems
- Ability to set priorities in the organization of one’s time
- Ability to work in a team and to establish interpersonal relationships
- Ability to communicate verbally
- Ability to live in a climate of intense emotionality: sharing daily life and living in an intensive internship with the user
Expected salary: $26.42 – 30 per hour
